Champagne Day Trip from Paris: Reims, Cellars & 4 Tastings

4.6 (11 verified reviews)

About This Experience

The cheapest full-day Champagne itinerary running from Paris, and the one that covers the most ground per euro. Four tastings, three landmark stops and a prestige house visit, with lunch left off the ticket to keep the price down.

Departure is from a fixed meeting point beside Louvre-Rivoli metro rather than a hotel pick-up — the other half of how the price stays low. From there it is about two hours east to Reims, the historic capital of the region.

The first visit is a prestige Champagne house — Nicolas Feuillatte, Mumm, Moët & Chandon or Martel, depending on availability — with a cellar tour and a tasting. The route then climbs to Hautvillers, the village where Dom Perignon worked, for a second tasting and the best vineyard panorama on the itinerary.

After free time for lunch in Reims, you stop at the Verzenay lighthouse, a genuinely odd 1909 folly built by a Champagne merchant that now houses a vineyard museum and stands above the Montagne de Reims grand cru slopes.

The day closes at the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims, where French kings were crowned for over a thousand years. Note that this is a newer listing with a smaller review count than the long-running tours on this page — the itinerary is strong, the operator track record on this specific product is still short.

What Travelers Say

Rated 4.6/5 by 11 verified GetYourGuide travelers.

We had a pleasant day with a group of very friendly Americans. Benjamin, our live guide, has a good knowledge of the area and its history. Thank you to him.

— Edwige, May 2,

The guide was very attentive and made sure to provide the information in our language. The tour as a whole was wonderful; I recommend it. I only have one objection regarding the adherence to the itinerary, which included a visit to two champagne producers. However, we only visited Nicolas Feuillatte, which was excellent, but I missed the other one. I don't know why, either, but from the middle to the end, the pace of the tour became faster. The visit to Reims Cathedral, for example, was rushed.

Roland, our guide and driver, was very good. The perfect minivan for the narrow roads among the vineyards and small villages. Good food tastings. The Reims Cathedral is beautiful.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this Champagne day trip cheaper than the others?

Two reasons: lunch is not included, and there is no hotel pick-up — you meet the group at a fixed point beside Louvre-Rivoli metro. The producer visit, the tastings and the sightseeing stops are comparable to tours costing significantly more.

Where do I meet the tour?

In front of the France Tourisme agency at 6 Rue de l'Amiral de Coligny, next to Louvre-Rivoli metro station on Line 1. The tour returns to the same address in the evening.

What is the Verzenay lighthouse doing in a vineyard?

It was built in 1909 by a Champagne merchant as an advertising stunt, on a hill above the grand cru vines of the Montagne de Reims. It now holds a museum on the region's winegrowing, and the terrace gives one of the widest views over the vineyards.

Is lunch included?

No. You get free time for lunch in Reims and your guide recommends places to eat. Budget separately for the meal.

How many tastings are included?

Four across the day: at the prestige Champagne house, in the cellars, at Hautvillers, and one more depending on the seasonal itinerary.
